Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts
The Jerash Festival is an annual cultural event held in the ancient city of Jerash, located in northern Jordan. Established in 1981, the festival showcases a rich blend of artistic performances, including traditional folkloric dances by both local and international troupes, ballet, musical evenings, theatrical plays, operas, and concerts by renowned Arab and international singers.
Festival history
The festival began modestly, organized by Yarmouk University, and later evolved into an official event under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture. Taking place every July, the festival uses Jerash’s archaeological site as the backdrop for its diverse cultural and artistic offerings. Over the years, the festival has hosted numerous acclaimed artists and cultural figures, including Fairouz, Sabah Fakhri, George Wassouf, Mohamed Abdu, Najat Al Saghira, Saadoun Jaber, Warda, Samira Said, Marcel Khalife, Majida El Roumi, Melhem Barakat, Adel Imam, and many others.
